What is the rationale for moving the VT Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center? Is there an alternative site in mind? I have visited AREC several times since becoming a Chesapeake Master Gardener. It’s location is very convenient for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk agricuture related classes.

As a private citizen of Virginia Beach I see no reason to destroy one of the “treasures” we still have here in Virginia Beach. If you haven’t visited this place, you should put it on your list of things to do this year – and it is free to visit. It is like an oasis – a place to get away from the traffic, the commercial ventures, the developers who want to take more and more land till there are no more places like this to visit. Once it is gone – it is gone forever.

Thank you for sending me this email about the proposed budget for moving AREC. I just sent emails to those in my voting district, Senator DeSteph and Representative Tata, asking them to vote “no” on 229. Do you think it would be helpful if I sent emails to any others, such as the chairs or members of the committee? Certainly the thought of the destruction of the beautiful gardens and arboretum, replaced with buildings and roads is tragic. Vivian Clark
